Omar, at the young age of 18, enlisted in the U.S. Navy right after a delayed high school graduation.  Since Omar was not too book savvy and as a way to provide for his family and a new bound son, he joined the military as an E-2 after 2 years of high school ROTC.  His grandparents and parents having migrated to the U.S. from Mexico, were in search of the American dream.  Omar was only the 2nd person born in the U.S.  Believing in the American dream that his grandparent once sought out; his enlistment also served the purpose of representing his family and defending the American dream that his family struggled to achieve.  Just shy of 9 years of service,  Omar was medically retired due to severe lower back injuries.  He has had 3 major back surgeries along with other issues that followed his surgeries such as nerve damage.  During his time of service and shortly following the retirement, Omar’s condition worsen which lead to other issues, to name a few: PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, Diabetes and suffered several loss marriages.  Above all these turbulent times, Omar was blessed with 3 amazing boys, Omar Jr, Andrew, Anthony, and now has a wonderful step daughter Samantha with his wife Aracely.

During all these turbulent times Omar pursued his college education full-steam-ahead.  With his GI Bill money being the main motivator, Omar finished his Associates, Bachelors and Masters in under 4 yrs and was awarded the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities.  Additionally, he later obtained an MBA-certificate at a Christian based university where there some of his healing began.

Omar now serves his community at different levels, serving those who are less fortunate (Proverbs 3:27) In early 2014, Omar’s employer presented him with the Humanitarian of the Year Award for his efforts and contributions during 2013.  Some of those contributions are focused on the people devastated by crisis; job placement for veterans; youth, men and adult mentorship programs within his local community.  Omar is remotely sighted in Oklahoma City from Washington D.C. and works as an Analyst for the federal government and also teaches part time for a University. Omar strongly believes in The FEWs mission because there are others just like him that have struggled along the way after their military service.  In his experience, the military only provided 1 week of transitional training which is meant to help those separating from the service, transition into the civilian world.  Unfortunate for any service member,  after serving 5, 10, 20 years, Omar knows firsthand that one week is simply not enough for any service member to transition from any branch of the service and into the corporate world and the society.  Through the life-changing-events and fellowship that The FEW provides, Omar hopes that others like him are not only given the healing they need but most importantly that they are given the opportunity to meet our Healer.
